I think it’s more just that he and Jed worry less about position with the prospects and just want to collect valuable bats. Whether they end up playing for the Cubs or being trade pieces to better this team, the value of power bats cannot be overstated.

I’ve actually heard Zagunis mentioned as a CF’er (he started in CF for MB on May 4th). And he hasnt played Catcher since last September 1st.

It will be interesting to see what happens with Schwarber, because if he can’t stick behind the plate then Bryant if forced to stick at 3rd, which forces Russell or Baez out of the picture (probably the former at this point).

But like it was mentioned in the article, Schwarber might not be able to play full-time behind the plate, even in a best case scenario for him defensively. And I wouldn’t advise taking away PA’s from Kris Bryant, even if Schwarber mashes his way through AA/AAA.

Basically, someone has gotta go. There just isnt going to be room heading into 2016. If the Cubs remain competitive heading into June/July, I would expect a pretty big trade due to the surplus of prospects and the obvious need in the rotation.

This season he’s been switching between LF and RF while with Myrtle Beach. I think he’s done behind the plate, which isn’t necessarily a bad thing because he is pretty athletic and has been pretty good in the outfield.

“Zagunis is a very athletic catcher who could also play the outfield, but Chicago seems committed to keeping him behind the plate.”

To the best of my knowledge, the Myrtle Beach Pelicans have not started Zagunis at catcher once yet this season. Now, it could be argued that this is largely because of the presence of Victor Caratini, but they’re clearly not exactly committed to the idea. If they really were, they’d have gotten him a few starts at catcher, whether at High-A or elsewhere. Zagunis doesn’t appear to be factoring into the organizational catcher question anymore.
