Basically my feeling as well. He’s young enough and I like his stuff well enough that I can still see some improvement. Love his durability and contract, if he can revert back to 2013/2014 production, he could be a huge get.

That’s a good question as to whether Theo/Jed have a reputation of getting the better end of the deal. Just an opinion, but my feeling is that while there have been some high profile missteps in regards to trades with the Cubs front office, most GM’s feel they know their own systems/players well enough to make informed decisions no matter who they are dealing with. If it was me, I’d be very, very careful dealing with them, to be honest. Similar to how I would feel about Andrew Friedman.

At 24, I doubt he a finished product. Isnt the issue for 3rd time through the order related to having a 3rd pitch? He’s mostly fastball slider, correct? Given his contract, age this is the type of guy I’d really like. I’m sure cubs scouts have their evaluation process, in terms of mechanical, pitch mix, etc that would change his projections. It all depends on what the braves deem value for him…

At what point do other GMs look at the successful Hoyer/Epstein pitcher reclamation projects and view inquiries with suspicion? Or do they primarily go after player identified as “available?” Obviously there’s an art to negotiations once a player has been targeted, but knowing the Cubs track record would seem to drive up the price a team would demand in a trade (in theory). AJ Preller in particular seems to be a tough nut to crack.
