Thanks for commenting Bill!

The Castro trade resonates with some of what I was writing about here. You can't keep all these guys, regardless of how good they are (especially if they play the same position).

It would be an interesting game of musical chairs to have Heyward AND Soler in the mix, along with a defense-first CF...though I feel like that would get real crowded real fast.

Then again, with Soler's injury history, it might be just what the doctor ordered.

Don't agree that they HAVE to trade him. I've been arguing for an 8-man rotation of high quality players, each playing about the same amount, in the 3-9 positions. This keeps everyone fresh in the season and for the playoffs, and gives Joe the extreme flexibility that he craves. Signing Heyward and keeping Soler would do the trick.

Thanks for reading Joel!

I think part of it is they HAVE to trade one of them. It wouldn't make sense to just stockpile the depth if they have a compelling opportunity to acquire a good, young, cost-controlled starter.

I can see the rationale here, and I know you have to give quality to get quality. So I've come to terms with the fact that either Baez or Soler is going to be traded this off-season. I really go back and forth between the two, but in the end I guess I'd rather see Baez dealt just because of the infield depth they have (LaStella and Torres, in addition to the starters).

Baez still has that crazy power (as does Soler), but I think his floor is lower. We saw it in the playoffs — Baez has clearly refined his approach and is less likely to try to hit the 7-run homer, but he also regressed and you could see that out-of-control swing as he started to press.

So, I dunno. In short, I could see them trading either one, and though I'd be loath to see them lose Soler's offense, I would eventually be ok with it if the return haul was good. But if they do trade him, we'll always have these moments, below.
