Not only did Arrieta throw a lot of innings, many down the stretch were high leverage in important games. Arrieta was basically done after the WC game in Pittsburgh.

is important for two reasons–it shows how much we leaned on our #1 and #2, and it also shows Joe’s approach to yanking the #3 – #4 – #5 guys if things get dicey quick. That probably also leads into the re-signing of Cahill, and acquisition of Warren–Joe likes flexibility in his pitchers’ roles.
