Schwarber has somewhat struggled with tougher lefties, which we all saw. And despite nothing special in the minors, I’ve seen several scouts or experts in chats say that while Szczur may never hit righties very well, his swing should be conducive to hitting left-handers just fine. So far, of course in a small sample, it’s been pretty good.

One disagreement from what you wrote, despite the platoon splits I don’t think Szczur will ever PH for Schwarber, unless a really tough LOOGY is brought in to face Schwarber. If 68 PAs against lefties is a small sample size so is Schwarber’s 61. Plus Szczur didn’t show any special ability to hit lefties during his time at AA and AAA.

I’d add this: Szczur has stolen 140 bases in 183 attempts in the minors (77%) in 561 G. That prorates to 40 over 162. There is NO OTHER CUB, with the possible exception of Baez, who’s shown that kind of acumen on the base paths. It is no fluke, either: he was clocked at 4.3 in the 40 during college football days at Villanova, a speed that beats all current Bears WR except latest 1st rounder Kev White (who can’t run right now). As such, he is easily one of the fastest men in all of baseball. No wonder PCL managers voted him Best Baserunner in 2015. And if I’m not mistaken, he took home Best Fielding OF as well.

He has far more pop than LaStella, similarly great contact rates (14% K-rate, 1.75 K:BB in minors), and again, no fluke: he’s a chiseled football player. He fits Cubs’ needs far more tgan LaStella, and gimme him over Denorfia, Jackson, or Quintin Berry–to a silly degree.
