Contreras and Almora aren’t even in the mix yet and the Cubs already have an excess of quality position players, most very young. They’ll need another quality starter, despite faith in Lackey, Hammel and Hendricks and the collection of “swing” guys I think a legit #2 guy can be pried away from someone in exchange for some nice pieces (Soler and Baez are the first possibilities).

We shall see, as other teams’ fortunes rise or fall, for instance Strasburg could be available as a “rental” later this season if the Nats struggle again.

Jorge Soler will be packaged with a couple top prospects in return for a young cost controlled starting pitcher. Albert Almora will be the starting center fielder in 2017 and Jason Heyward will be back in right field.
