LOVE this article.

I wonder how much maddon's use of Chapman is related to trying to appease him and maybe resign him? If there was no chance to resign, then why not use as needed? If he moves or sucks, then he is only hurting his FA leverage, and his agent will make sure he knows that.

Home field is definitely valuable; I was just trying to make the point that it's not as valuable as how we seem to think of it. .555 isn't nothing, but when you think about what teams tend to get home field advantage (looking more like the Cubs than the Marlins), it's not that far off, either. And, to pick a nit with your nitpicking, I don't care a whit about what the owners want – how much money they make is very, very far down on my list of concerns. Thanks for the comment!

The club has so many solid players. Resting guys and still maintaining a high level of play is feasible. Watching the games as of late, it looks like Joe is using the Strop injury to search for a qaulity playoff bullpen piece. He hasnt used Edwards since Sat. Interested in how he responds.

You didn't mention Soler. Getting Soler on the field more often, including back in RF, is important. Both for his development long-term, as well as his potential trade value come winter.

Listen to your chief. Rian Watt has it right. Players week be far more prone to injury and playoff lapses by suddenly changing the approach they've all bought into since spring training. Namely, do everything the same every day from preparation to game execution. I have yet to meet a successful athlete who isn't successful BECAUSE he or she doesn't show themselves room to compromise going all out.

That being said, of course the 6th starter and the older guys (especially Zobrist) could get puked a little early our an occasional day off every couple of weeks.

But winning is a great motivator, drug and medicine. Losing creates all kind of problems. You start giving up on games for six weeks, it will carry into postseason.

Hi Henry, this is a nit, but you can't scoff at a .555 winning % for home teams in the playoffs from 2007-2015. Granted, that's not an NBA advantage, but .555 projects to an 89-73 record in a 162 game sched. So, my point is....Cubs should absolutely be playing for home field in the remaining 46. I am pretty sure their employers want home field too, for the obvious financial benefits. Keep up the good work!
