If possible in short time to cite and quantify what a Chi beat writer said on MLBN last night about diminishing returns resulting in WS losses with starting pitchers working on short rests. Pointed out recent exceptions being Bumgarner and '09 NYY' s Pettit, but otherwise the record is poor. The real advantage could be that the series could go seven.

I'm not sure anyone can say Javy doesn't deserve more $$$ for tagging skills until it is better quantified. If it's tied in to Defensive Runs Saved his overall value will already be reflected I suppose but think of what it does for his pitchers (like Lester) who have one less distraction and saves 4-7 additional pitches on every successful tag.

I dont' pretend to understand the formula behind most stats (ok, any of them) - but I think there is also an intangible emotional boost that comes with these. Fear for the opponent perhaps less aggressive on the paths (is this why CLE isn't running?) and a momentum builder for our defense.

Joe is all about the big 'mo so maybe a deep analytical project for the off season for you guys??
