I was surprised you didn't make more of a case for either Willson or Addison as THEGUZ7 suggested. I agree with him that against lefties, Russell or Contreras might be in the one hole for much of the same reasons you mention about Javy. Willson will likely play against all lefties while Miggy will get his games against righties, much like Javy. But I think Addison is the guy that has shown the most maturity and is ready for that next level and hitting at the top. Side note, with the exception of the NL West, most teams are right handed heavy, so I would expect the Cubs to see 120 right handed starters. Schwarber will likely get all of those starts. That leaves just 40 or so. So it really won't be much of big deal.

I dont' think Baez leadoff is even in the ballpark of stupid. Joe affirmed that it's a mindset with Javy. I actually think it would HELP him to know what that role is (not swinging for the fences) but setting up for the guys behind him. If he has that disciplined mindset to 'get on base' as a priority, I think that could develop some excellent habits down the road. And, I agree with THEGUZ7. And Javy's distraction value couldn't be better for the guys hitting behind him either...

One other huge benefit: instead of having Heyward or P's batting behind him, he'd have Bryant and Rizzo, and would therefore see better pitches by far, and probably more FB. Your suggestion isn't off base at all, and when we note Zobrist has a life OPS of a poor .702, it's even more "on base."

Actually, Contreras and Russell may be better options than Zo at leadoff for the same reasons.
