Nice story, but he was Charlie Weeghman ( not to be confused with the Cubs' Bill Wrigley). Turn in your Cubs fan card! :)

Great story! You are very true that Weeghman started allowin fans to keep balls, but your statement that the Reuben story is " riddled with inaccuracies and impartial truths" (though "impartial" is an odd choice since it indicates an accurate telling of the story, which contradicts your "riddled with inaccuracies" comment to which it's connected) is inaccurate and misleading. While you're correct in stating Weeghman allowed fans to keep fouls, you neglect to recognize that the Reuben case is THE case which pushed the entire league over the edge. Weeghman was often ridiculed for his actions, in fact. Only 1-2 other teams followed Weeghman's lead, and they began to lose money as a result. There apparently were rumors they were going to stop doing it. But when Reuben caught the ball, it altered the face of baseball forever. So, while you're absolutely correct, you've misrepresented the importantance of Reuben's contribution. I hope you'll join FoulBallz.com next season for National Foul Ball Week (May 16-21, 2018).
