Baez may not have a great contact rate, and his BA (and to a lesser extent OBP) reflect this. However, his OPS is a respectable .807 currently. That suggests he’s more of a slugger than an on-base guy, and home runs can win games too.

Most of the contact rates aren’t that different from last year except for Bryant’s (who’s actually gone up), Baez (who’s not going to get pitched in way that plays to his strengths like in the NL playoffs last year), and Almora (who hasn’t really played that much). I’m much more worried about how they’ve been getting nailed by sequencing and the lack of production from Heyward.
