So if instead of talking about this life style, he instead discussed how he thinks players have the right to kneel. He supports that cause.

Good lord why are you so offended? You got so mad about something this dude said 3 years ago that you sat down angrily at your computer and wrote this. Grow up. 99% of gay people wouldn’t give a damn about this. He’s not a scholar, not a teacher, not even someone remotely important. He’s play a game. You want all these guys to be 100% enlightened on social issues?

So don’t root for the team anymore. Switch to another team that has 25 completely perfect human beings like you on it.

Literally no one is talking about taking away anyone’s rights. We’re talking about the right to competing world views. If I don’t agree with yours, that doesn’t mean you’re any less of a person. I fail to see how my inability to condone another person’s value system invalidates that system. I don’t insist that others condone mine when they disagree. It’s funny how that ratchet only goes one way.

what is at stake here is that the moral high ground of one order-tge crusty judeo-christian one-is giving way to another moral order. believers believe: the truth of their moral order almost always seems obvious and indisputable to them.

Whoa. That escalated quickly.

While LGBTQ rights are a fundamental human issue about which there should be no disagreement among reasonable people, people like Daniel Murphy have effectively been indoctrinated through years of bible study/church/evangelicalism that are stuck in the 1960’s.

It is easy for me to say that they are wrong, and they are on the wrong side of history. It is easy for me to preach that they need to change their ways. But it is not easy for me to call him deplorable, or a person of “heinous character”. He could be a good person. I like the fact that he took the 3 days off for the birth of his child. And I don’t hold this against the front office. I’m happy they went out and got a guy to bolster the lineup. But one guy does not make a clubhouse; the clubhouse and team should not be judged by the lowest common denominator. I’m sure that if we had the capability, we could find bad dirt on just about everyone–including authors on this site.

Sorry Christopher. There are some “fundamental human issues” that reasonable people might disagree about. LGBTQ civil rights ain’t one of them. Your morality sounds a lot like the fans who spat on Jackie Robinson because he had the nerve to play baseball while black. Like those fans, you are on the wrong side of history.
