I personally think that Bryant and agent did the right thing by turning the offer down. ( since we do not know when the offer really happened.) Yes Bryant had an off year. No big deal. He is a multiply position player. I think that they will be waiting for to see what happens with either Harper or Machado. If Bryant happens to have a good year expect his offer to be bigger than either of the two. Hey Cubbie front office get rid of some of the outfield baggage and sign both and watch the baseball world go Cubs nuts for a few years. Let me know if you need a better manager..

I still like my idea of - after a uniform base salary based on years in the majors - WAR for the year divides a set pool of cash (XX% of team revenues or whatever) so players are paid PRECISELY what they are worth on the field for the year.

Or, if you want to make it (like arbitration) where they make THIS year whatever their performance was last year - fine by me.

This will save teams from having to pay for non-productive assets due to injury or failure and allow young players to start making what they are worth immediately.

Teams that want to kick in more to the pool can do so.
